WELCOME



Welcome to Film Studies ! 

This course will cover analysis of Hollywood cinema  from the 1920s to the present day  as well as  British, European , and global cinema. You will also be discussing issues and debates around experimental film and documentaries, as well as the chance to plan and create you  own film production work.







                                             EXPECTATIONS

 A strong interest in film and  a willingness to explore new and  unfamiliar film genres and contexts.You will be expected to watch and analyse other films in your own time and complete extensive homework tasks.


Respect for the teacher and  all other students and the ability to listen to others

INDUCTION 1 : written task

Please complete a film review ( 800 words minimum)  of a favourite film or one you have recently watched . This must include the following.




Information and analysis of genre and  use of generic conventions , character, narrative  and story elements.


Analysis of use and effects of  of  technical codes such as use of camera, editing, sound and mis-en-scene.  This must include close analysis of a key scene from your film.  


Explanation of the film's production context ( director, how it was made, studio etc. )
 and reception ( reviews, box office figures, awards etc. )


You can link or copy in a youtube video to support your work.




This should be completed by Friday  and uploaded to your blog.

EXTENSION :    Analyse another film of the same genre or by the same director, comparing the films' use of generic  conventions and technical codes.
